Arete Expedition: A wilderness expedition for fathers
It has been awhile since we have posted but we wanted to make sure to get this out as soon as we heard about it!
Two amazing fathers, exceptional wilderness guides, and good friends, Tim Hare and Reed Harwood are leading a 4-day backcountry journey for dads into the Colorado wilderness.
This is truly an amazing opportunity to be in brotherhood, steep in the natural world, and be in the presence of two skilled guides and mentors. It is a chance to invest in yourself, to step away and reflect on what’s most important to you as a father and a man, and to allow nature to reset your baseline as a dad.
And as Tim says, “Much is made these days of attention. How precious it is, how it is its own economy, how it is exploited, how it must be protected. It is much more difficult to hold sustained attention for an extended period of time than it used to be.
We need to intentionally carve out space to recapture our attention.
The Arete Expedition is an opportunity to retreat to the mountains for 4 days in the service of reclaiming our attention. If we do nothing else on this journey, we will do that.
While reclaiming attention has all sorts of benefits, the most obvious is that it just feels better. We know this when we have reclaimed even a fraction of it for a part of a day. Once our attention is reclaimed, then we can do the important work of reconnecting to ourselves, families, vital relationships, and the Earth.
We come back to life and love.
